Use our moving cost calculator to estimate your exact move. Here's what you're typically looking at for a 2,235-mile haul:
| Move Size | Moving Company | Moving Container | Rental Truck |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio / 1 bedroom | $1,157 – $5,096 | $1,149 – $3,027 | $1,184 – $2,311 |

Estimates as of January 2026. Actual costs vary based on move timing, service level, fuel, and any specialty handling. Always get multiple quotes.
Full-Service Moving Costs
A studio or one-bedroom will run $1,157 to $5,096. Two or three bedrooms typically cost $3,454 to $6,929. Four or five bedrooms: expect $6,106 to $11,333.
Price swings come down to time of year (summer = peak rates), distance, weight, and add-ons. Get quotes from at least two movers to narrow it down.
Moving Container Costs
If you prefer moving containers (like PODS), expect $1,149 to $3,027 for a small move, $2,191 to $4,272 for two to three bedrooms, and $2,951 to $5,609 for four+ bedrooms. Containers let you load on your timeline, but you'll handle the packing.
Rental Truck Costs
DIY truck rentals are cheapest—$1,184 to $2,311 for a studio, $1,373 to $2,696 for two to three bedrooms, $1,652 to $3,236 for larger homes. The tradeoff: you drive the whole way and do all the heavy lifting yourself. Fuel is included in these estimates.
What Shapes Your Moving Cost
- Move size: More rooms and stuff = higher bill.
- Time of year: Summer is peak season (higher prices). Winter and early spring are cheaper.
- Service level: Full-service movers cost more than DIY or container services. But they save your back.
- Distance: This route is 2,235 miles—longer routes generally cost more per pound.
- Specialty items: Pianos, art, antiques, or high-value goods require crating and bump costs up.
