American Way Van & Storage
1001 S. Brown School Rd. Ste. A, Vandalia, OH 45377 77% positive · 22% negative
Yelp (12 reviews) · Google (143 reviews) · BBB: Grade A+
DOT #: 76628 · State license #: 00139517 · 35 years in business
American Way earns its top ranking on consistency. Customers point to professionalism, careful handling of fragile items, and quotes that actually hold — which matters more than people realize until they've been burned by a bait-and-switch estimate. A notable number of reviewers have used them more than once, which is the clearest signal a mover is doing something right.
The negatives — about 22% of reviews — involve damaged belongings, slow claims resolution, and surprise charges. None of that is unique to American Way, but it's worth asking upfront about their valuation coverage before you sign. If anything you're moving has real value, don't assume the default protection is enough.

Lewis & Michael Moving & Storage, Inc.
3920 Image Dr, Dayton, OH 45414 79% positive · 21% negative
Yelp (7 reviews) · Google (68 reviews) · BBB: Grade A+
DOT #: 728239 · 75 years in business · Also known as: Lewis & Michael, Inc.
Seventy-five years in business is a legitimate credential. Lewis & Michael's reviews track with that kind of longevity — efficient crews, fair pricing, and enough repeat customers to suggest reliability. Reviewers consistently describe the staff as respectful and organized, with moves often finishing faster than expected.
The 21% negative slice involves damaged items and poor follow-up when problems arise. If you're moving delicate belongings, confirm their insurance options before the truck shows up.

Mayberry's Van & Storage, Inc.
1850 Cardington Rd, Dayton, OH 45409 84% positive · 16% negative
Yelp (7 reviews) · Google (68 reviews) · BBB: Grade A+
DOT #: 81407 · 80 years in business
Mayberry's has the highest positive review rate of this group at 84%, and 80 years of operation gives that number real context. Customers highlight polite staff, efficient work, and rates that don't come with ugly surprises at delivery. Negative feedback — around 16% — centers on lost or damaged items and occasional billing discrepancies. Still, for sheer reliability in the Dayton market, Mayberry's is hard to argue with.

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK
612 Phillips Drive, Beavercreek Township, OH 45434 77% positive · 23% negative
Yelp (33 reviews) · Google (223 reviews) · BBB: Grade D-
DOT #: 2527384 · State license #: 00144805 · 23 years in business
Most customers describe fast, friendly crews who show up ready to work — and the move volume here gives them plenty of reps. For a local Dayton job, they're a reasonable pick. But that BBB Grade D- is a red flag I wouldn't ignore on an 833-mile interstate move. The 23% negative reviews mention damaged items, final bills that outran the estimate, and difficulty getting resolution afterward. That pattern is more pronounced here than with others on this list.

Lincoln Storage & Moving Inc
315 E 1st St, Dayton, OH 45402 61% positive · 39% negative
Yelp (1 review) · Google (21 reviews) · BBB: Grade A+
DOT #: 1008646 · State license #: 00606034 · 108 years in business · Also known as: Lincoln Storage and Moving
108 years in business is genuinely notable. The problem is a 61% positive review rate — the lowest on this list — and a 39% negative rate that includes canceled moves without notice, damaged items, and billing surprises. Staff and communication get praised, and pricing is competitive. But inconsistency that severe concerns me on a long-haul move. I'd trust them with a local Dayton job before putting my household goods on their truck to Massachusetts.

Factors That Shape Your Moving Costs from Dayton to MA
- Move size: Volume and number of rooms drive the quote more than anything else.
- Time of year: Summer is peak season. Move in spring or fall if you can, or book early and lock in your rate.
- DIY vs. professional: DIY moving saves money up front but costs time, physical effort, and carries real risk to your belongings — especially on a haul this long. Factor that in before you default to the cheaper number.
What You Should Know Before Moving from Dayton to MA

- Income tends to run about 54% higher in Massachusetts — helpful, but not enough to fully offset housing costs.
- Cost of living overall is roughly 25% higher.
- Unemployment is about 43% lower in Massachusetts, which reflects a deeper, more active job market.
- State income tax is 9.0% versus 3.5% in Ohio. On a higher Massachusetts income, that gap adds up faster than most people expect before their first return.
How Life in Dayton Compares to Massachusetts

| Political leaning | Democratic (50–48) | Democratic (61.5–36.3) |

A few things worth flagging before you start packing:
- Politics: Both places lean Democratic, so you won't feel like you've landed on another planet.
- Summer weather: Nearly identical. Slightly cooler highs in Massachusetts — no real adjustment needed.
- Winter: About 30 more inches of snow per year than you're used to. Massachusetts gets roughly 47 inches annually against Dayton's 17. If you've never owned a snow blower or a set of winter tires, that changes.
- Rain: About 9 more inches annually. More of an adjustment to your wardrobe than your lifestyle, but worth knowing.
- Crime: The statewide crime indexes are nearly identical — Massachusetts's is slightly lower. That number won't tell you much about the specific neighborhood you land in, so research at the local level.
Other Logistics to Handle Before Moving Day
The truck is the easy part. Here's what to check off before it shows up:
- HOA rules: If you're moving into an HOA community, review move-in procedures and any restrictions ahead of time.
- Elevator reservation: Moving into a multi-floor building? Reserve the elevator in advance — it's usually first-come, first-served on move-in days.
- Truck parking permits: Some Massachusetts cities require permits for large vehicles. Check with your destination city or town a few weeks out.
- State licensing: Massachusetts requires movers to be licensed through the Department of Public Utilities – Transportation Oversight Division. Verify any mover's license before you sign a contract.
- Moving permits: Massachusetts doesn't require a formal moving permit, but local parking rules still apply — especially in denser cities.
- Change of address: File your USPS change of address at least a week before your move date so mail starts forwarding without a gap. You can set your official move date when you file.
- Moving insurance: Massachusetts movers are required to offer Released Value Protection at no cost, but it only covers 60 cents per pound per item. That's minimal coverage for anything with real value. Ask about full-value coverage, or look at third-party options if you have items worth protecting.
- Moving checklist: Use our moving checklist to stay organized and avoid missing anything in the final stretch.

FAQ
How long does a move from Dayton to Massachusetts take?
Most moves on this route take two to seven days depending on the company and service level. Summer moves trend toward the longer end of that window due to demand. Before you book, ask your mover to specify their delivery window — and get it in writing. A range of "two to seven days" in the contract is too vague for an 833-mile move.
How many Dayton movers handle custom crating for art or antiques?
Five Dayton movers offer custom crating for fragile, oversized, or irregularly shaped items, including artwork, antiques, and electronics. If you have anything that needs special handling, confirm crating availability with your mover before signing — not all five do it at the same level.
What's the best way to get my car from Dayton to Massachusetts?
Use a dedicated auto transport company rather than tacking it onto your household move. Look for one with documented vehicle condition inspections at both pickup and delivery. Don't default to the cheapest quote — the difference in care is real.
Why are people moving from Dayton to Massachusetts?
Mostly jobs and family, in my experience. Massachusetts has an unusually strong market in tech, biotech, healthcare, and education — and a concentration of universities that draws people for both study and careers. The cost of living is the main trade-off, but for the right opportunity, it's a trade a lot of people are willing to make.
Can I pay for my Dayton move with cash?
Four Dayton movers accept cash, but traceable payment methods are standard for good reason — they protect you if a dispute comes up after delivery. Expect to put down a deposit to hold your date, with the balance due at pickup or delivery. Confirm the specifics with your mover when you book.
Where can I find more long-distance movers for this route?
