If you're moving from Michigan to Florida, you already understand the trade you're making: real winters for real heat, one of the country's most affordable housing markets for one of the priciest, a shrinking Rust Belt city for a state growing faster than most of the country can keep up with. Whether that calculation tips your way depends on your situation — but if you've decided to go, here's what the move actually looks like.
This is a ~1,219-mile haul. That puts it squarely in long-distance territory, which means costs, timelines, and carrier selection all work differently than a local move. Get that right from the start and the rest follows.
Out of 37 Detroit-area movers equipped to handle state-to-state work, here are the five that consistently perform best on the Detroit-to-Florida run:
24660 Dequindre Road, Warren, MI | DOT #511993 | In business since 1910
One hundred and fourteen years in business isn't a marketing claim — it's evidence of sustained operational competence. Across 250 reviews, customers consistently highlight professional crews, accurate quotes, and genuinely careful handling. The complaints that surface — damaged items, slow claims resolution, invoices running higher than estimated — match what you'd see industry-wide at this scale. For a 1,200-mile run, the A+ BBB grade and longevity carry real weight.

832 W Eleven Mile Rd, Madison Heights, MI | DOT #2378173 | 14 years in business
A 93% positive rate across nearly 300 reviews is genuinely rare in this industry — most movers sit closer to 75–80%. Customers point to clear communication, upfront pricing, and crews that move fast without being reckless. The minority of complaints centers on furniture damage and slow follow-up on claims, which is typical of franchise operations at scale. If speed and efficiency at a competitive price is what you're after on this route, College Hunks is worth getting a quote from.
